Wound up with 13 layers and since the starting point was a D3X capture the final stack was 2.2 Gigabytes! Took forever to save. Even after a dozen layers I wasn't happy with the image and then decided to run it through nik's Color Efex 2.0 and used the Bleach Bypass filter on the background. That gave me the faded/worn look I really wanted to finish off the project. Used several Flypaper Textures on separate layers, Totally Rad Textures and a couple Graphic Authority layers and masks. The footsteps in the sand just happened to be there. Was a very lucky capture! Took with my Sigma 10-20 mm lens and circular polariser filter, handheld whilst walking backwards. Adjusted the contrast in the sand and also the sky and then add a bleach bypass before converting to black and white. Some selective dodge and burn to bring more of the shadow and highlights out.
